About

We help smooth the path for groundbreaking discovery and inquiry.

The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research, Innovation and National Laboratories provides guidance and central administrative support to UChicago researchers and scholars in their pursuit of new knowledge and novel solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. We also provide direct oversight of Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the Marine Biological Laboratory and the University’s founding-partner relationship with the Giant Magellan Telescope project.

Several dedicated units inside of the Office work with individual researchers, departments and divisions to accelerate, seed and coalesce research and provide expertise, resources and services to help smooth the path of discovery, innovation and scholarship at UChicago, Argonne, Fermilab and MBL. Through a number of strategic initiatives, the Office helps to foster interdisciplinary, inter-divisional and inter-institutional collaborations, ensure safe and responsible conduct of research and enable the effective dissemination of new knowledge through publication, public outreach, entrepreneurship and innovation.
