Joint Speaker Series

  • The Joint Speaker Series

Special programs for University and lab faculty and scientists encourage connections that spark collaboration.

Building Connections

Engaging conversations strengthen ties. Twice a year, UChicago offers the Joint Speaker Series for members of the University, Argonne and Fermilab communities to foster new interactions. The program provides a setting for all three communities to gather informally around topics areas outside of standard specialties.

Each event features a moderated panel or short talks that explore such interdisciplinary topics as “Cosmos and Culture,”  “Science and Ethics,” “Big Science: Big Challenges,” and Extreme Research.” Scientists and scholars from all three institutions, as well as occasional outside experts, participate on the event panels and/or give short talks about their research. In the inaugural “Art and Science” event, panelists discussed how computer-generated art can help scientists better understand and communicate their findings.
